A Surprise Trip

On Valentine's Day we gave our kid's the ultimate valentine. We picked them up from school early on our way to Universal Studios in Florida. It was a bit of surprise for mom and dad too, considering we had just decided to make the trip the day before. Our dear friends, the Worths, we going down and invited us to share their condo with them. It was a hard offer to pass up so, we didn't.
Needless to say, the kids were thrilled. Particularly Addilyn who had been begging to go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter for over a year.

Addilyn with Kate and Emma in Hogmeade.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter was amazing. Everything was so realistic from selecting wands at Ollivander's wand shop to hearing Moaning Myrtle in the bathroom.

When entering Hogwarts castle all the pictures talk, of course. Here's the fat lady giving her little ditty.

One evening, Addilyn and I left the younger kids at the condo and went to explore Hogmeade on our own. Addilyn is quite the thrill seeker and couldn't get enough of the roller coasters. I, on the other hand, don't have much a stomach for that so after three rather rambunctious rides I lost a bit of my dinner and had to be done with the rides. Despite the incident, Addilyn and I had a great time together and it was fun to hear her say, "I never knew moms could be so fun."

I felt much better after having a cold butter beer and turkey leg at The Three Broomsticks. Mmmm! See all that frothy goodness on my upper lip.

Another Trip for Mom

January 29th - February 2nd
Gastonia Stake Temple Trip

I was so blessed to be able to attend the Washington DC temple with 56 other women from my stake for 3 days. We left early Thursday morning on a chartered bus and arrived in DC in time to attend a session then have dinner at PF Changs. The next day I attended two back to back sessions then did a tour of the National Mall. We returned in time to do some initiatories. The next morning, another two back to back sessions. It was such a spiritual high and one that I really needed.
My roomies: Andrea Cobb, Julie Beaumont, Me, Sandy Abbott

A visit to the National Mall.

It was neat to be in a spiritual place (personally) then ponder on our fore fathers and the divine inspiration that guided them in laying the foundation for our great nation.

One of my favorite parts of DC was visiting the Smithsonian and seeing the original "Star Spangled Banner" flag - the one that inspired our national anthem.

Practical Joke

This picture is from a year ago, but I forgot to post it.
What do you do with an old toilet bowl?
Use it as a planter in your front yard.
Rob and I secretly delivered the festive planter late one night to the Abbott's house. Imagine their surprise when they woke the next morning.

The Recording Studio

My first time in a recording studio.
Our stake decided to make a CD of music selections to be distributed at our annual women's conference. Sandy, Kristin and I sang a song that was written by our friend Wendy Petranek. She was so gracious to trust us with her beautiful arrangement called Daughters of God. Sandy and I worked in some great harmonies and the song turned out beautiful.

Valentines

Valentines morning;
Heart shaped cinnamon rolls.

Rob delivered on the flowers. So thoughtful.

We did homemade Valentines which, I felt, fit the kid's personalities.
Alex did Star Wars with pixi stix for the light sabers.
Maycie did roses made of Hershey kisses - since she's my flower girl.
Addilyn continued with her obsession with Harry Potter and made golden snitches from Ferrero Rocher.
